Tell the Few

It is a tremendous task to tell the whole world about our God. Fortunately, He only asks us to tell a few. May we be faithful in telling the few that He has assigned to us.

‘Do you not say, there is yet four months, then comes the harvest? I tell you, lift up your eyes and see that the fields are white with harvest.’ John 4:35

His Strength

‘You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.’ 2 Timothy 2:1

Our strength is in Christ, not ourselves, or money, or accomplishments. or power. He is gracious to give us His strength, which is far more powerful than anything human.

He has the Answers

Life is more uncertain at the moment than sometimes. Flooding, corona virus, effects of the budget, and so on. these things can all give us sleepless nights. But where the government can’t help, we know One who can. Let us trust him. He has all the answers.

‘Be strong and take heart all you who hope in the Lord.’ Psalm 31:24

Light

We know that if you light a candle in a dark room, it will give light to the whole room. How much more the light of God which has not been extinguished for over 2,000 years and will never go out, giving light to the whole world.

‘The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.’ John 1:5

Share

The other day I had the opportunity twice to share the gospel and my faith. On one occasion the two people agreed with me, which was encouraging. On the other occasion there was a horrible silence when i said,’I’m a Christian.’

‘Oh Lord, open my lips and my mouth will declare Your praise. ‘Psalm 51:15

All Circumstances

The amount of thanks we give to God doesn’t influence how generous He is to us. I haven’t been thanking Him enough recently as the bad weather has been depressing me. Not good enough on my part. Those with the least often thank Him most.

‘Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’ 1 Thess 5:18

All Things to All

We do not have to compromise to share our faith. I must stand by what we believe. But we need to put ourselves in other people’s shoes, so that we can understand where they are coming from.

‘To the weak I become weak to win the weak , I have become all things to all people so that by all means possible I might save some.’ 1 Corinthians 9:22

Of course, not that Paul does the saving. that is all from God.

All

‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your on understanding, in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your path straight.’ Proverbs 3:5-6

I love the way that this text manages to use the word ‘all’ twice. There is nothing half-hearted about this. It really is everything. We can’t be a half Christian; it’s a full time job. Quite a thought this Lent time.
