Gifts

I have a friend who says she doesn’t have any spiritual gifts. As she has been a great homemaker with a husband and four children to care for I didn’t agree with her analysis of herself. I also feel this is an insult to God who has given us all gifts according to the grace given to each of us. Romans 12:3-8 He has blessed us all with talents.

Finding these gifts through our lives is not always easy but anything worthwhile is never easy. It is also possible that our gifts change during our lives as the need arises. I felt at one time I had the gift of hospitality. Everyone received a welcome when they came to see me. This is not so applicable now as I’ve got older. My gift of encouragement has grown as I’ve had more time to listen to people. and had more experience of life.

My gift as a writer did not appear until I became older in life. I had time and opportunity to learn more about the process and work hard at it. My skill and practice gradually increased. Like all gifts they must not be wasted; they are God-given. Ephesians tells us ‘For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do ‘
